Poker Player Magazine
« on: May 25, 2011, 20:37:46 PM »
It is just me or has PP over the last few months "dumbing" down with its content?

It seems to have happened when Mr Bowden took over as Editor.  I think I cottoned on to it when I started reading words not associated with its normal content.  C**K and T**t, etc to mention but two examples

Ignored it for a while, then this months at the back, it"s report on some random 2+2 forum that the US homed in on OBL because it was logged to poker or something.

The small bit slates the forum post, but above that peice, it has a huge pic of OBL with more coverage of the "story"

I will not be renewing!  :(  Feels like Viz rather than a serious poker mag these days

I have to agree think it has been on a steady decline over the last couple of years. I basically just skim it now. :(

I get WPT for the more serious poker news, and PP for the fun factor. It may not be quite what it used to be, but still a decent read...

Funny you should bring this up, I have been re reading some of my back issues lately, and as soon as this months issue dropped through the door I thought for one it didn"t have as many pages, and then some of the content was rubbish! Having said that for something like 50p an issue for the forward subscription its still worth it.

Printed on thinner cheaper paper and 4 pages (8 sides) less than this time last year.
Funny coz I noticed all the above too as soon as it arrived.

I"m with Mike. Don"t think I would cancel it as I haven"t yet paid more than £5 for a 12 month sub (too much useful event info) but it"s def being dumbed down. Could soon go the same way as inside poker, which would be a shame.

I subscribed to Inside Poker but when it went bust I had paid for future months and was sent an email asking me if I wanted to use my credit to continue with their sister magazine "Poker Player". (Dennis publishing).
which I still do.

Have to agree, but for £5 a year for 12 issues, its worth it. In terms of strategy its rubbish, but it does give you a brief snapshot of whats happening around the world.

Also worth it for the freerolls to GUKPT, and UKIP, plus their own tourneys.

The interviews are quite enlightening and far outway the small outlay

Yeah i have been really disappointed with it for a few months.

It has a tired formula and just drags up old advice.

I find it boring, even the star interviews are the same old hype, mostly with dinosaurs of the game.

As has been mentioned though the subscription is so cheap. It"s worth it for the freerolls and event info.

Tend to agree with the mood of the posts, although I"d never cancel because, for all it"s faults, you easily get £1"s worth of value from it. A third of a pint of beer or a magazine, posted to your door, with SOME stuff worth reading and the freerolls, etc.?
