Value !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: September 05, 2011, 21:38:03 PM »
I have heard a lot of players on about value for money in tourneys, such as overlays, guarantees and other stuff.

How many players play for the money or the enjoyment of the game.

There is one casino that I visit, small buy in £15 f/o, nice friendly game averages around 45/50 runners.
Me and mrs mac get there as often as we can, now we say this is value for money.

£15 + £1.50 for an average of 4 hours enjoyment, what could you get for that anywhere else ?
and still with a chance of walking away with £250 +.

We all look at value for money differently, that"s what I call value for money, yet a few players that play at mine say they would never play that tourney.

So do I play to win money are for the fun of it ?.

To be honest it is probably for the fun of it, although when at the tables I play to win it"s the challenge itself.
I would gladly sit down and play a 0.50p tourney.

In my games there are players from all walks of life, we have a people in good jobs and some out of work so our buy in has to suit all, to be honest most of the ones that have the good jobs are not interested in how small the buy in is, they just want to play.

After our tourney or when there is a table empty there is a cash game, this will probably shock you all but it is a max £5 sit down with the blinds 10p and 10p.
I have this set low not only to cater for everyone but all players that come to play are my friends and I do not want to see them lose a fortune, if this happened it could even end up spoiling the game.

Just my thoughts.

So is it money ?, enjoyment of the game ?, or both ?.

I think it"s fair to say we all play for the money. It"s a competetive game/sport and the ultimate goal has always had money included in the prize!

I"m sure the answer for virtually all players will be that they play for both fun and profit.

However, we do all have different sized pockets.

My weekly game is a £5 rebuy, attracting between 20-30 runners (followed by a 25p anti "dealers choice" cash game, that we usually buy-in at £10 a time if you go out of the tournament early). This is fun.

I like to play the APAT games for the experience even though entering regular £75-£100 tournaments is definately not suited to my pockets!

Two ways to look at this.

Torney £20 buy, play for 6 hours, cash for £70.

£50 profit for 6 hours work (minus any expences, lets say £15), works out at £5.83 per hour
some say you could get that at Mcdonalds.

Or you could say £35 profit, 6 hours free enternainment, what would it cost for other entertainment for 6 hours.

Go to Vegas and drink for free whilst playing.

I lost $200 in a cash session once before my beer had even arrived - I was gutted at not getting the extra value.

Reminded me of my brother moving to Pontefract 25 years ago, he and his wife had a night out with new neighbours so he correctly bought 4 drinks when they got to the pub. When first round was done the husband of the other couple went to the bar, bought 2 drinks and came back to the table   ::) And they call the Scots tight ffs  :D
