Best Laptop for Poker?
« on: September 07, 2011, 18:24:31 PM »
I know when your cereal goes snap, crackle & pop it"s a good thing, but I am guessing the same does not apply to laptops!

So, it"s time to get a new one which I"ll be doing in the next couple of days. It"s primary function will be for poker as I can use my work laptop for everything else.

Would really appreciate some advice - I would describe my budget as low to mid-range

Many thanks

Poker software isn"t massively resource hungry JP so I"d say you don"t need a high spec "gamer" spec laptop, unless you intend to massively multi-table with tracking software, HUDs and other software running at the same time?

If you do then a high spec gamer laptop would be needed with hi res for the multi tables... but I"m going to guess and say that probably won"t be the case mate?

Don"t want you spending more than you need to....

Have a look in the Dell Outlet store here JP

http://outlet.euro.dell.com/Online/InventorySearch.aspx?brandId=7&c=uk&cs=ukdfh1&ref=gzilla

Need to add on delivery and VAT but I"ve found you can"t go wrong with a Dell over the years

Agree with Gerry size matters with a screen so definitely 17inch(+)

Just get the most RAM you can for your money

Hard disk size (as Gerry says) not really relevant but still no harm in more the merrier mate

Just remember that if you go for 4GB of RAM you have to buy the 64 bit version of Windows because if you don"t it can"t use more than 3GB of what you have installed.

The only reason NOT to go with Dell is that no-one other than Dell will repair it for you if it goes wrong. Local PC repair shops etc. will just shake their heads and tell you to call the manufacturer.

@Thinsy: You like Acer then?  ;D

tbf It was about 6pm Saturday when mine started with the strange numbers so I borrowed my Mum"s ACER for the online game and I was impressed.

Not strictly true. It can use more than 4GB, the OS itself has everything in place it"s just that MS choose not to let you use it. You can get round it.

Bit beside the point though as 4GB is WAY more than you"d need just to play poker. 1 will be plenty.

I have 2GB and run Win7, and my laptop runs pretty slow when I have 2/3 clients open with 4+ tables in play, and PokerTracker importing, chrome, livemail, etc etc etc....  am considering upgrading to 4gb
