Bit beside the point though as 4GB is WAY more than you"d need just to play poker. 1 will be plenty.

I have 2GB and run Win7, and my laptop runs pretty slow when I have 2/3 clients open with 4+ tables in play, and PokerTracker importing, chrome, livemail, etc etc etc....  am considering upgrading to 4gb

What processor has it got? Have you looked at how much memory you"re actually using? None of those should be hogging it so upgrading may make little difference. I run pretty much the same with 2gb and it"s more than enough. Depends what the etc"s are!

Just buy as cheap as possible so you can replace it when you smash it against the wall in frustration
Looking forward to making my first day 2

Seeing as this is turning into a bragging thread:

I went through 2 Sinclair Spectrum 48K (the rubber buttons stopped working through playing too much "Track & Field")
Then I upgraded to a second hand Spectrum 128K (with built in cassette player)

I once stayed up all night playing a motorbike game on my dads Amega once too!!

More memory cant go wrong , check out this site to scan for type and it gives you a price too

would look at whats running in background as well though cntrl-alt-del , and start task manager performance tab, see whats happening if CPU is 100% all the time this could be malware there

Pah, cassette player!  I had a Sinclair Microdrive! And the Specdrum which allowed you to do sampling. Super hi-tech!  :)

Only thing to say IMO "Once you"ve had a MAC there"s no going back"... to windows that is. If your fav site insists on the Windows stuff install Parallels and it still runs faster than most average PC"s.

I know they are more dosh but everything just works trust me.... Oh if you know anyone at Uni they can get upto 20% discount through those nice apple peeps Education arrangement (must be ordered off UNI Intranet).
