I find travelling to Scotland/Wales/Ireland/Newcastle/Blackpool a pain....could we hold all of next years events in Luton or DTD please?

At the very least could we hold them in cities with train stations...oh, wait!

Sorry Shug! ;D

I found this sounding Sarcastic rather than tounge in cheek , but hey maybe the way i just took it and hence maybe why was very defensive.

Not a problem...it"s tough to convey "tongue in cheek" when writing and only smilies to work with.

Getting back to Shug"s original point though...if anyone has ideas on where APAT could host an event next year (that are well served from a transportation point of view or not), why not start a thread with some information on it and others could weigh in about the feasability based on local knowledge?

a move out of scotland would be a terrible move for ATAP IMO with the growing scottish following APAT have! Its like taking the UKIPT Edinburgh out of the pokerstars tour. As for the travel point im on the fence just now as i know how hard a job the guys have to secure venues but i also do agree with shug that it would be nice to have a easy to travel to venue for all!

100% agree with duke that things can be easily miscounstrued when just reading its happened to me so many times.

As for scottish venues for next season.... give me a shout guys if you want some input/help securing one! ;)

Re: the moving out of Scotland thing. I only mentioned it to highlight how difficult is has been in the past couple of years.

Past experience has shown the short supply of suitable venues in Scotland that tick all the boxes.

I want to emphasise that moving would have been the VERY last resort if Richard couldn"t find a venue. Fortunately, this hasn"t happened and, thanks in no small part to the Glasgow contingent, it looks as though this won"t be an issue.

Seen a few comments about travelling recently and been on the disappointing end of travel difficulties myself. I recognise that a large number of APAT members are within easy access of a number of Southern/Midland venues. Could I suggest that venues near to major airport be considered for national championships. I am disappointed that Luton is hosting the team competition this year as it is a easily accessible from Scottish airports. I am not criticising, as I respect the great job that is done for us, just passing an observation for consideration for next years programme.

Hi Shug

We chose Luton for the forum Championships, in part, because it is easily accessible. I am not sure how it isn"t. You can get to Luton airport for under £100 return from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen in under two hours via Easyjet, for example

In general all venues are chosen on various criteria and ease of travel is certainly one of those. We also look for a spread of the UK events across the country

With respect to Cork, to answer other queries on the thread, as you may remember we began to have major problems with the Fitz last year. Looking elsewhere the cost of non casino tournaments for example through Irish event operators in hotels, was prohibitive on our budgets

Scanning around the Macau in Cork is well established in a major city with air links. Direct flights to Cork/Kerry from several airports. I accept that in practice this has been more difficult for those not within easy reach of the Southern airports though, which is my fault for not checking thoroughly enough

I have spoken to Richard regarding Dublin (specifically the Fitz) on a couple of occasions over the past 18 months and it was very unlikely we would be back there this year.

I definately think it is worth exploring the option of utilising one of the independent non Casino based tourney operators, hosting the Ireland leg in one of the many poker friendly hotels has a lot of merit.

It does, but its not currently affordable.

Not meaning to answer for someone else or put words in his mouth, but I think you have misunderstood his point. I read it that he was complaining that the most easily-accessible venue was being used for an inter-forum tournament rather than being kept for a National Championship that the Scottish players would be more likely to attend.

ok but not a single venue used for an English based national championship this season has had poor travel links and is inaccessible wherever you live

If the argument is that Cork is inaccessible, well firstly there are direct flights from several UK airports and secondly we wouldn"t be using Luton for that event anyway!

Sorry, just to make things even worse, I live in between Liverpool and Manchester. For me, Cork is easier and cheaper to get to than Luton, and Cork is in a different country!

This just goes to show that one man"s easily accessible venue may be different than the second man. I understand what Shug is saying but at the end of the day, the Irish Nationals will always be in Ireland, never somewhere like Luton.

Jeez, is it his accent or something? The guy never mentioned the Irish Nationals.

And anyone who lives in the Manchester/Birmingham region can never complain about the location of venues.

No, he didn"t specifically say the Irish Nationals. However, from his post and others above (including yours, John) people are insinuating that we should use the most accessible venues regardless of country for the Nationals. My point was to show that this cannot be done as APAT won"t use English venues for Irish Nationals and vice versa.

And I"m not complaining, just showing that for some people, Luton isn"t the most accessible venue.

Jeez we have tournaments laid on in various cities around UK, Ireland, and Europe. Some will be easier to get to than others dependant on your home location. Some will be downright impossible or impractical for some people to get to.

If we want to avoid anyone having travelling difficulty we may as well just play online!!  Alternatively, just accept that some places will be harder to get to than others, but that those places that are hard for some people to get to, will actually be easier for the locals to get to.

Aberdeen a couple of years ago - impossible for me to get to at a practical cost, so I didn"t go. Great for the locals though.

Didn"t know I had insinuated that - I must read my posts more carefully in future.

Liverpool to Luton isn"t too bad Adam - you"re too used to the short journeys to Coventry, Nottingham, Walsall, Blackpool, Manchester.......
